Post-Protestant Era?

There is a deep chasm between the Protestant doctrinal beliefs and those of Catholics:

Scriptural Salvation/Regeneration: by God’s grace through faith alone in Jesus Christ

RCC Salvation/Regeneration: through the RCC sacrament of baptism

Scriptural Sanctification: by God’s grace through obedience to God via Scripture

RCC Sanctification: good works, merited grace, sacraments (Eucharist, confession, etc); all sanctification is accomplished through RCC

In 1517, when Martin Luther nailed 95 theses to the door of a German church, the Roman Catholic Church did not appreciate his inquiries into their non-biblical religious practices. That was the starting point of the Reformation, a separation of the Protestants from the RCC.

The RCC has been apostate since about the year 300AD. They claim they are the true Church, that no one can be saved except through the Church.

A devout Catholic, Tom Peterson, has created a website, Catholics Come Home (CCH), whose purpose is to bring lapsed Catholics back into the RCC and to lure Protestants into the same snare. After clicking on the door, I Am Not Catholic, the website gives you the option of viewing their apologetics section which answers common questions.

One of the questions on the CCH site is the following:

Why do Catholics call Mary the Queen of Heaven? Doesn’t God rebuke the Israelites in the O.T. for worshipping a false goddess called the Queen of Heaven? Should we not refer to Mary with that title, therefore, since it is the title of a false goddess?

Their answer is:

In Jeremiah 7:18, God is indeed upset with the Israelites for worshipping a false goddess called the “queen of heaven”. However, just because God rebuked them for worshipping the false queen of heaven, doesn’t mean that we cannot pay honor to the true Queen of Heaven…the Blessed Mother.
That type of thinking would lead you to believe that just because people worship a false god that they call “god,” we, therefore, should not call the true God, by that same name…God…because that’s the same title the idolaters use for their god! That is faulty logic and it makes no sense whatsoever.

Again, the fact that there is a false “queen of heaven”, does not lead to the conclusion that we worship a false goddess when we call Mary the “Queen of Heaven.” Just as the fact that there is a false “god”, does not lead to the conclusion that we worship a false god when we call our Father in Heaven, God.

And there is a true Queen of Heaven, we see this quite clearly in Revelation 12:1, “And a great portent appeared in heaven, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars…” Let’s see. There’s a woman…she’s in Heaven…and she has a crown on her head. I could be wrong, but I don’t think it’s the maid! No! It is the true Queen of Heaven, Mary, the mother of the male child who is to rule the nations.

We do not worship Mary, we honor her, just as Jesus honors her. So, there is absolutely nothing wrong, from a scriptural point of view, in calling Mary the Queen of Heaven, and in honoring her just as Jesus honors her.

The Queen of Heaven is a false god. The “true Queen of Heaven” isn’t found anywhere in Scripture. Using the same defective analysis, we could draw the conclusion from IKings 18 that there is a true god of Baal, and the 450 prophets of Baal were mistakenly praying to the false Baal god.

In Revelation, John writes of a “great sign (or portent) in heaven”, of a woman (Mary) who gave birth to a Son (Jesus) Who was not consumed by the red dragon (satan). The Son then was “caught up unto God and to His throne” and the woman ran into the wilderness where she had a place prepared by God. The Son and the woman are not ruling in heaven together. That is a blatant lie fabricated by the RCC to keep its followers enslaved by false gods.

Other questions and answers on the CCH site are similar. The Catholics provide feeble responses to the serious questions that are introduced when comparing the infallibility of Scripture with the RCC traditions and sacraments. The RCC exegesis is analogous to a 10-year-old trying to justify his belief that the earth is flat.

Another way the Roman Catholics are trying to appeal to Protestants is through the Catholic Charismatic Renewal. The Catholic Charismatic Renewal (CCR) was started in 1967 by students and faculty members of a Catholic Pittsburgh university.

Some of the Catholics who were initially part of the CCR have been regenerated by the Spirit of God through faith in Jesus Christ alone, in direct conflict with the Catholic sacraments of baptism (Catholic salvation) and sanctification. They have left the Roman Catholic Church and its bondage to live their lives in the liberty of Christ.

Many others in the CCR continue to be identified as “Catholic Christians”, an oxymoronic expression that evidences the Protestant Pentecostal’s and Charismatic’s persistent ignorance of incompatible doctrinal beliefs.

Even though it is unmistakably obvious that the RCC beliefs are diametrically contrary to the biblical Protestant doctrines, many Protestants believe that through their efforts, “unity in the spirit” can be realized by means of “the baptism of the Holy Spirit”. But by which “spirit” is this unity achieved? The real Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead, the One Who leads us into truth, the One Who convicts sinners of their rebellion to the One true God and draws the sinner to repentance through Jesus Christ. The real Spirit of God does not exist in a person who has not been regenerated by that same Spirit. The Catholic holy spirit continues to bring sinners into the Roman Catholic Church so they may complete the sacramental works of a dead religion.

Kenneth and Gloria Copeland support the endeavors of this false spirit. As noted in this post, Tony Palmer is a former director of Kenneth Copeland Ministries (KCM) and has been invited by the RCC to minister to Catholics within the CCR. (See KCM article here) The Copelands have also traveled to the RCC in Italy on more than one occasion to minister. Since the Roman Catholic religion is poles apart from the biblical doctrines of salvation and sanctification, how could they possibly be invited by the RCC to teach the basic tenets of the Gospel of Jesus Christ? Anyone who financially supports the Copelands enables the Copeland’s efforts in assisting the RCC to dismantle the effects of the Reformation, with the purpose of ending the “protestant era”.

How will the “protestant era” supposedly “end”? The new pope, Francis I, is a Jesuit, a member of the Society of Jesus founded by Ignatius of Loyola who composed the Spiritual Exercises which are used by the Jesuits to this day. In becoming a Jesuit, all members of the Society of Jesus including Pope Francis, must take the Extreme Oath of Induction. Do not click on the sources of the Extreme Oath if you do not wish to see the graphically vivid wording. Part of the blood oath is posted here:

I furthermore promise and declare that I will, when opportunity present, make and wage relentless war, secretly or openly, against all heretics, Protestants and Liberals, as I am directed to do, to extirpate and exterminate them from the face of the whole earth; and that I will spare neither age, sex or condition… (Source 1; Source 2 pages 22-23)

Anyone who is not Roman Catholic is to be “exterminated”. Pope Francis likely will not go to such lengths to remove the Protestants etc., but he absolutely is not pro-unity. He will appear to be so, but beware. He is quoted as saying:

It makes me think that the Paraclete makes all the differences in the Churches and seems to be an apostle of Babel. But, on the other hand, [the Holy Spirit] is the one who makes unity of these differences, not in equality, but in harmony. I remember the Church Father who defined it thus: ‘Ipse harmonia est.’ This Paraclete who gives, to each of us, different gifts, unites us in this Church community that worships the Father, the Son, and Him, the Holy Spirit.”(Source) (bolding added)

The division between the Catholics and Protestants continues to be strong, from the time of the Reformation to this present day. God has irrevocably mandated His plan of salvation and that cannot and will not be changed by man’s whim of “unity in the spirit”.

The Holy Spirit Whirlpool

The Bible clearly states in 2 Thessalonians 2:3 that the Antichrist will be revealed in the last days:

Let no man deceive you by any means: for [that day shall not come], except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition

Who this “son of perdition” is, no one knows. But we do know that many Christians are being deceived, caught up in a fuzzy whirlpool of good feelings, false unity, and muddled spirituality.

Included in this apostate whirlpool is Rick Warren. He recently made it even more clear that he is biblically unhinged when he encouraged Christians to pray for the 115 cardinals, who were selecting the new pope, that they would “seek(ing) God’s will in a new leader”. Do Not Be Surprised has an interesting article about Warren’s support of Catholics Come Home, a Catholic group that uses broadcast media in order to evangelize and inspire inactive Catholics to come back “home”.

Another player in the whirlpool is Kenneth Copeland. His aberrant doctrines include the ransom theory (God sent Jesus in order to reclaim the planet earth from satan) and the prosperity theory (name-it-claim-it). His teachings are quite liberal, although his followers (Charismatics and Pentecostals) would say he’s a conservative. In this article on KCM.org a former KCM director, Tony Palmer, who is involved in Catholic Charismatic Renewal (CCR) and also an official member of a Roman Catholic Ecumenical Delegation for Christian Unity and Reconciliation, is interviewed by BVOV, Believer´s Voice of Victory, Copeland’s magazine. KCM and the Copelands have maintained a strong pro-Catholic partnership with him. Palmer knows the new pope, Francis I, and in fact considers him his spiritual father and prayer partner. Palmer reveals that

…when he (Pope Francis) was introduced during a large Christian meeting in Buenos Aires where over 5,000 evangelical protestant leaders were in attendance, Pope Francis (then Cardinal Bergoglio) knelt down in front of the evangelical pastors and asked them to lay hands on him and bless him! Every year, as Cardinal, he would join his evangelical brothers (pastors) for their annual weeklong retreat—not as a guest speaker to teach, but as one of them… He always tells me that we all need to live like Jesus. It’s all about Jesus!

…During our times together, we have spoken about our shared pain of the division of Christians, and together we have shared both tears and prayers for her healing—the one Bride of Christ…

…The time of “spiritual apartheid” is coming to an end, and I believe Pope Francis will be one of the proponents of its demise. We have a worldwide charismatic movement of the renewal of the Holy Spirit within the Catholic Church… We now live in a post-Protestant era with a pope who openly embraces his brothers and sisters of all Christian denominations… Diversity is divine, but division is diabolic. It’s time to celebrate diversity in the bond of unity. We are one Bride, one Body in one Baptism. (emphasis added)

Supposedly the Holy Spirit is the common denominator in bringing the Protestants and Catholics together. Since when does the word of God declare that Christians who are new creatures in Christ Jesus are spiritually compatible with those who reject justification in Christ alone and teach their billion plus followers that salvation is through the Catholic church, the priests and the sacraments? The infallible word of God doesn’t teach any such thing.

Here in Mexico, evangelical missionaries have come in the past to stay with me while they have their Charismatic meetings. (For the record, they no longer stay with me.) A few years ago a missionary couple came back to my house after preaching at a local church service. They told me that there were two women who received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. I responded, “But I know them and they aren’t even Christians!”. The preaching couple didn’t care that they weren’t Christians, they just continued to tell people how “God had moved” in the service and the two women, along with others, had been speaking in tongues. I was quite appalled, but come to find out, Charismatics believe that anyone can be baptized in the Holy Spirit as long as they can “speak in tongues”.

In the Copeland article, Palmer says

Pope Francis is openly supportive of the work of the Holy Spirit and the Charismatic renewal, and in his choosing of Saint Francis’ name, he promises to continue to support what the Holy Spirit has begun.

I see. So as long as the “Holy Spirit” is working in people’s lives, the relationship (or lack of a relationship) with God doesn’t matter. That’s a whirlpool I’d rather not step in.

Jesus’ Death and Resurrection

Isaiah 53:3-5

He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her.

If you go to the Mennonite Brethren Conference (Canada) website (here) and click on ‘Ministry Quest’ or ‘Canadian Youth Workers Conference’ you will find yourself on the website of the Canadian Youth Workers Conference which is going to be held in Toronto Dec. 4-7, 2008. This conference is put on by Youth Specialties and Canadafire.

While it’s important to equip those in the body of Christ who work with youth, is this a good event for youth workers to be attending? It appears that this conference may be another means by which Youth Specialties is teaching contemplative spirituality to youth.

For example, if you browse the Canada Fire on-line store you will a book called Contemplative Youth Ministry (by Youth Specialties). This is not surprising as Youth Specialities is an extremely contemplative youth ministry. (See here.)

Another concern is who the Youth Workers Conference is associating itself with. Can you see what is tucked away in their interdenominational (ecumenical) association list?

Fake ‘Child Faith Healers’: Passing the Occult Mantle to the Children

In this post Targeting The Children, I wrote about Todd Bentley, Bob Jones, and Patricia King encouraging children to experience occult phenomenon, teaching them to go up to the “third heaven”.

During the current Lakeland Healing Revival, Bentley is planning to teach children to “heal” people. How exactly is that done? Bentley talks about it 3:33 minutes into this video:

MOTHER: You remember yesterday, this little guy came up [indicating one of her sons] for the cyst that was the size of a quarter that had shrunk down, and while he was on the floor, you [Bentley] prayed ‘Lord, use him!’. Well, my husband is absolutely 100% deaf in his left ear….This little guy got that gift of faith imparted into him. His dad is working in Virgina and couldn’t be here. My son said ‘Put the phone up to your deaf ear!’

BENTLEY: And I said the Lord was going to use him in miracles!? And he started his miracle ministry!? And his deaf father… got healed!

[..]

BENTLEY: The CHILDREN!! The healing revival’s going to be on the CHILDREN!!

BENTLEY: And who’s this little girl?

MOTHER: That’s my daughter. She just wants more of the anointing! (laughter)

BENTLEY (to girl): Come here, sweetie. How old are you?

GIRL: Nine.

BENTLEY: You want the anointing because your mother got it.

GIRL: Uh huh.

BENTLEY: What do you want to do with the anointing?

GIRL: Um, heal people.

BENTLEY (to boy who prayed for father): So did you feel anything after I prayed for you, young man?

BOY: Uh huh.

BENTLEY: What did you feel?

BOY: Like fire.

BENTLEY: You’re 10…. Now you want to pray for the sick?.. Your dad got healed of a deaf ear!

BOY: Yes!

BENTLEY: The surgeons told him he would never hear!… It’s impossible! What else can God do?

BOY: He can heal people in wheelchairs.

BENTLEY: Are you going to pray for the sick?

BOY: Uh huh.

BENTLEY: My God! He’s going to pray for the sick! Anoint him with fire!

7:10 minutes:
BENTLEY: I’m telling you! How many of you have children? How many of you have grandchildren? [show of hands] How many of you know somebody that needs to have their children anointed? How about young people? Tomorrow night, this weekend! It’s going to be powerful!

8:36 minutes:
BENTLEY: And you know what? The greatest miracles are happening to the children! People are being healed in the atmosphere! I didn’t pray for that man in the wheelchair! Have you seen me lay hands on any people tonight? My job is getting the Holy Ghost and speak what I see, and God’s moving sovereignly in mighty power. healing people over the TV and the internet, and using ordinary men and women. He’s going to use you! This anointing is for the Body of Christ!

Bentley “imparted” the gift of faith to the boy, and now he is a faith-healer. The girl wants to imitate her mommy so Bentley believes she will heal people too. What a circus! What apostasy! Where is Jesus Christ in this sham!?

Jesus requires that we are regenerated by the Spirit of God before we can preach the Gospel or heal people, and all is done through the power of God, not through our (or our children’s) wanting to be part of a “movement”, “something big”, a “great move of God”, or “I want to be like mommy”. These children may or may not know God through Jesus Christ, but it is obvious that Bentley does not care one way or the other. All he wants is brainwashed people and their children in order to build up his Healing Army. All glory goes to Todd Bentley and his fallen angels.

This fake anointing, this occult anointing, this spirit is not of God.

Targeting the Children: False Prophets Duping Christian Parents

Todd Bentley, Patricia King, and Bob Jones, prophets of the Elijah List, what do they have in common? All three of them are targeting your children in order to lift them into a “third heaven” occultic sphere, using meditation, contemplative prayer, angels of light (satan and his demons), emotional manipulation, and blatant lies.

In the following video, Bob Jones, Todd Bentley, and Patricia King speak of this contemplative practice of entering into the “third heaven”:

KING: Todd, I remember years ago, you gave me a phone call and you said ‘Hey, I’ve just been soaking with Bob Jones and I’ve gone up into the “third heaven”‘ and all that. And it was all new to me; I’d never even heard of that kind of language before and I was SO hungry for it. But tell about the first time you met Bob and your encounters in the third heaven.

BENTLEY: The first time I met Bob was actually in Grants Pass, Oregon. We were sitting in a restaurant and I was really hungry; I knew Bob was a real seer prophet. I thought ‘Lord I’m going to get an impartation’. I’ve been having all these encounters and all these visions and experiences already soaking, but I thought ‘Lord I need to talk to somebody that’s been walking in this that’s really a senior prophet’. So when I met Bob, I thought ‘Lord, I’m going to get an impartation’ and I remember talking with Bob in a restaurant about going into the heavens and what it was and we were talking about the “third heaven”, going into the immediate abode, into that place, the dwelling place of God. And I thought ‘That’s awesome!’. I was hungry for it too; I wanted more! ‘Cause, up until that point, sovereignly God was just visiting me. And I was just waiting in His presence and sovereignly God was visiting me. And Bob said to me, he said, ‘We can go right now!’ And I said ‘What do you mean, we can go right now?! We can make the decision right now and enter into that realm of the spirit?’. And he said, “Sure we can! Don’t you have faith, boy?!’. Or something like that. (laughter) That what he said to me…

KING: Well, I remember when you [Bentley] were telling me about it, I got so hungry for it. And right after that Bob was coming to a conference that we were having… I was going to just ask him all kinds of questions about this third heaven, I didn’t know, because I wanted to know. I wanted to experience God in a new way; and I think we all do; we’re all so hungry for Him, right? But I hadn’t caught yet, because you had told me about the experience but not the faith dimension, so I was just still thinking ‘Sovereignty’. God’s sovereignly going to move, take me out, well whatever. So I’m asking Bob questions and Bob, you said ‘Well, I do my raptures every day!’. I said ‘What do you mean, your raptures every day?’. He said ‘I go up every day!’. And I said ‘You go up EVERY DAY! I’d love to go up every day!’ And he said ‘Well, it’s by faith!‘…

A person’s FAITH supersedes God’s SOVEREIGNTY??

Bentley, Jones, and King declare they are going past the sovereignty of God into a contemplative heavenly experience. In scripture there is only one who declares himself to be as high as God — satan:

I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Isaiah 14:14

9:00 minutes into the video:

JONES: A lot of people see a lot of different colors [when in the third heaven], but when I take the children up most of the time, they see the “white light“. And they see the white throne, and nearly everything they see up there is white! That’s what God IS, is white light! But you got all the colors in it. And up there they see one another as white light, for they ARE light.

KING: Wow! I remember you saying to me one time, you said, if you can teach children to ascend into the third heaven and live out of that place then you will have a generation that will not be affected by the devil because the devil can’t go there. Isn’t that profound!?

JONES: Yep! Well, youth and children they hardly have any problem at all going there, especially 6 to 12. They go right up and I’ve seen them take them up and turn them loose! And then after you turn them loose, the first thing they’ll do, they’ll tell you what they’ve seen. So a lot of times with them, I let them tell me what they’ve seen, and then I interpret it to them. And then sometimes I will say, ‘Okay, go up again and see what you see for me’. And I’ll tell you some of the most seer prophecies I’ve got, come from some of them 6, 7, 8 years old! And some of the conferences I’ve been in, when the youth go up, I’ll tell those, the speakers of the conferences, you want blessed, go let the children pray for you. And see, they go continually there! They haven’t been taught the doubt that we have here.

Why would God give his children a vision of a contemplative who combined the East and West in his meditative disciplines? Is this where Todd Bentley’s ideas about visions, spirituality, and ’soaking’ prayer are coming from?

Why would God, indeed. Bentley, King, and Jones are occultic mystics, doing the works of the flesh, a form of godliness but denying the power thereof (2nd Timothy 3:5). The power of God is not in evidence, nowhere to be found in their false teachings.

The fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23):

Love
Joy
Peace
Longsuffering
Gentleness
Goodness
Faith
Meekness
Temperance

The fruit or evidence of the Spirit is not false doctrines (heresies), excitement, shaking, barking, laughing uncontrollably, getting a shove from the preacher to be “slain in the spirit”, jumping in “the river”, etc., etc., etc…

Parents, please do not allow your children to be involved in these occultic experiences. Pay attention to what is being taught — not only their teachings but yours as well. Check EVERYTHING against the Word of God.
